No Security Officers for KPSEA and KJSEA, Says KNEC
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has confirmed that no security officers will be deployed during the 2025 KPSEA and KJSEA exams.
KNEC CEO Dr. David Njengere explained that security officers will only be involved in exceptional cases, such as in regions with security challenges. In such areas, the officers will handle the distribution of exam materials to schools and the return of answer scripts to containers.
However, he emphasized that the KCSE exams will be different. Every KCSE center will have at least two security officers on duty throughout the exam period.
Teacher Deployment Rules
This year, KNEC has introduced strict rules on how teachers will be deployed to manage exams:
- Primary school teachers will invigilate KCSE exams.
- Secondary school teachers will only serve as supervisors for KCSE.
- Junior school teachers will supervise the KJSEA, supported by primary school teachers as invigilators and supervisors.
- Grade 6 KPSEA will be supervised exclusively by primary school teachers.
KNEC also announced that teachers trained as KJSEA examiners will take part in marking and scoring in December.
Deployment Figures for 2025
Dr. Njengere shared the following statistics for teacher deployment:
- KCSE: 10,765 centre managers, 12,126 supervisors, 54,782 invigilators.
- KPSEA & KJSEA: 24,213 centre managers, 26,479 supervisors, 125,492 invigilators.
To support KCSE exams, an additional 22,247 security officers and 2,692 drivers will be engaged for transport and safety.
In total, 3,424,836 candidates will sit national exams this year:
- 996,078 for KCSE
- 1,298,089 for KPSEA
- 1,130,669 for KJSEA
Deployment Guidelines
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has directed that:
- Only registered TSC teachers will be deployed.
- Teachers must not have worked in the same school for the last three years.
KNEC has already activated the CP2 portal (on September 26) for teacher deployment. Teachers are required to:
- Create CP2 accounts.
- Log in to view their assignments.
- Download official deployment letters with duties and responsibilities.
