
IEBC Announces Job Vacancies Ahead of Upcoming By-Elections
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced 10 open positions for temporary staff to support upcoming by-elections. The roles range from presiding officers to voter educators and ICT clerks.
Below is a breakdown of the available vacancies and key responsibilities:
1. Presiding & Deputy Presiding Officer
- Ensure KIEMS kits and power banks are fully charged and ready before polling.
- Oversee all polling station operations.
- Demarcate and lay out the polling station.
- Safeguard KIEMS equipment.
Deputy Presiding Officers (DPOs) will assist the Presiding Officers in performing these duties.
2. Voter Registration Clerk – Huduma Centre
- Safeguard registration materials and equipment.
- Operate biometric registration kits (KIEMS/VIU tablets).
- Verify voter eligibility according to electoral laws.
- Assist applicants in completing forms correctly.
3. Ward-Based Voter Educator
- Conduct voter education within County Assembly Wards.
- Distribute learning materials in schools, religious institutions, health centers, markets, and community spaces.
- Collaborate with community leaders and local authorities to enhance outreach.
4. Polling/Counting Clerk
- Assist in setting up polling and counting stations.
- Display official posters at the polling station.
- Control queues and guide voters to the correct station.
- Check voters’ fingers for indelible ink before allowing them to vote.
5. ICT Clerk
- Provide first-level ICT support at tallying centers.
- Troubleshoot technical issues to restore services quickly.
- Configure and test KIEMS kits before elections.
- Offer technical assistance to Presiding Officers, DPOs, and clerks.
6. Support Electoral Trainer (SET)
- Assist in training Presiding Officers, DPOs, and clerks.
- Prepare training venues and materials.
- Supervise training of clerks and other election staff.
- May perform PO or DPO duties when assigned.
7. Logistics Officer
- Coordinate transport and distribution of election materials.
- Prepare distribution plans and route maps.
- Arrange materials for collection by Presiding Officers and DPOs.
8. Voter Educator
- One position per county (e.g., Baringo).
- One position per constituency with a by-election.
- Two positions per County Assembly Ward (CAW) with a by-election.
