Kazi Mtaani Set to Begin – Official Start Date Confirmed
Kazi Mtaani Set to Begin – Official Start Date Confirmed, President William Ruto has confirmed that the Climate WorX Programme (CRSP) will officially roll out nationwide on July 1, 2025, creating opportunities for more than 110,000 young people across all 47 counties. The transformative initiative will engage Kenyan youth in environmental conservation and community infrastructure development, equipping them with both income and life skills.
The announcement follows the successful piloting of Climate WorX Mtaani, which the President launched in Korogocho, Nairobi County, in September 2024.

What Is the Climate WorX Programme?
The Climate WorX Programme (CRSP) is a government initiative aimed at addressing youth unemployment, climate change, and community development simultaneously. It provides paid work opportunities in key sectors such as:
- Tree planting and reforestation
- Waste management
- Road construction and rehabilitation
- Environmental sustainability projects
Participants will work in structured community projects designed to improve infrastructure and combat climate-related challenges in Kenya’s most vulnerable regions.
Who Oversees the CRSP?
Each county will host a local selection committee to ensure fair implementation. These committees are composed of:
- Informal settlement leaders
- Two youth champions
- A representative from the National Council of Persons with Disabilities (PLWDs)
- Officers from the Micro and Small Enterprise Authority (MSEA)
- County Youth Officer and County Director of Education
- TVET County Director and Housing Director
- A National Construction Authority representative
- National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs)
The committee is responsible for reviewing applications and ensuring transparency in the selection process. Shortlisted candidates will be notified via SMS on the phone number they used during registration.
Applications for the 2025 intake are now closed.
Working Structure: Two-Week Rotational Shifts
To balance productivity with personal development, CRSP participants will work in alternating two-week shifts:

- Two weeks on-site handling community development tasks.
- Two weeks off to attend life skills and entrepreneurship training.
This approach ensures continuous work delivery while investing in long-term personal growth for the youth involved.
Payment and Compensation
Youth enrolled in the programme will receive:
- KSh 500 per working day
- KSh 550 per day for designated youth supervisors
Payments will be disbursed bi-weekly through mobile money platforms for convenience and transparency. Participants will also sign task sheets and payment records to confirm receipt and monitor attendance.
Government supervisors from relevant ministries will oversee the daily operations to maintain quality standards and adherence to work plans.
Skills Training for Future Employment and Entrepreneurship
One of the standout features of the CRSP is its training component, which offers 30 hours of structured training spread out across the year. This training covers:
- Life skills and personal development
- Entrepreneurship and business management
- Environmental awareness and sustainability practices
- Workplace readiness and professional behavior

Importantly, this training takes place during participants’ off weeks, ensuring that learning does not interfere with the work schedule.
From Paid Work to Sustainable Businesses
To ensure long-term impact, the programme encourages youth to form Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) that can evolve into sustainable enterprises after the programme ends.
Technical support teams will guide the formation, registration, and management of these CBOs—helping youth access capital, manage group dynamics, and operate effectively within local markets.
National Impact and Government Goals
The rollout of the Climate WorX Programme aligns with President Ruto’s broader agenda to:
- Empower the youth
- Combat climate change
- Promote inclusive economic growth
- Develop grassroots infrastructure
By integrating employment, training, and environmental action, the CRSP stands as a model for social impact initiatives targeting the youth in Kenya.
What’s Next?
With over 110,000 youth set to benefit from paid jobs and training under the Climate WorX initiative, the government is optimistic about the long-term ripple effects this will create in local economies, environmental resilience, and youth empowerment.
More details and updates will be shared through official government portals and local administration offices.
