The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has released the official list of documents that applicants must present during the upcoming verification exercise for Junior Secondary School (JSS) internship positions.
Shortlisted candidates will undergo verification at the sub-county level, where they will be required to produce the following documents:
- A copy of the Teacher Registration Certificate or a print-out from the TSC online portal.
- A valid National Council for Persons with Disability (NCPWD) card (if applicable).
- A copy of the National Identity Card (ID) or passport.
- Two recent passport-size photographs.
- A copy of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) PIN certificate.
Internship Agreement After Verification
Once the verification process is complete, successful applicants will be required to sign a one-year internship agreement before deployment to various schools. The teachers will then be posted to support the rollout of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system.
To prepare them, TSC in collaboration with CEMASTEA and KNEC will provide retooling and professional training. Teachers will receive capacity building in the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and Competency-Based Assessments (CBA).
About the Teacher Internship Programme
The TSC Internship Programme is designed to equip unemployed but registered teachers with classroom experience, mentorship, and coaching. It aims to strengthen their teaching competencies while offering exposure to practical learning environments.
- Duration: 12 months (some previous cohorts served for two years).
- Stipend: Kshs. 20,000 per month, subject to deductions such as NSSF, SHIF, and Housing Levy.
- Certification: On completion, interns will receive a certificate of service.
Importantly, teachers who complete the internship are awarded 50 marks during Permanent and Pensionable (PnP) recruitment, giving them a significant advantage when applying for future TSC vacancies.
