TSC New Teacher Redeployment JSS: The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is searching for available, qualified secondary school teachers who are pending swaps or transfers in order to temporarily place them in junior secondary schools (JSS).
The TSC Secretary and Chief Executive, Dr. Nancy Macharia, asked all regional and county directors to do a thorough assessment of secondary school teachers who are waiting to be transferred or swapped within their respective regions in a memo dated July 19.
The objective is to find willing and capable educators who can be temporarily transferred to Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) while their requests for swaps or transfers are being handled.
With this project, we hope to ensure that learning never stops at the institutions and address the serious teacher shortage in JSS.
We’ve learned that several secondary school instructors have submitted applications for transfers or swaps and are presently waiting to be placed.
The memo states, “A key barrier to the effective implementation of the Competency-Based-Curriculum (CBC) is the persistent teacher shortage in Junior Secondary Schools (JSS), while their petitions are being processed.

“To tackle this matter and maximize the application of human resources at hand, I now mandate all Regional County Directors and Country Directors, TSC, to conduct an exhaustive examination of educators who are on the waiting list for transfer or exchange within their corresponding regions.”
In executing the directives, the TSC asks its directors to do the following: find qualified teachers, talk to and interact with them, work with relevant departments to plan and organize the teachers’ seamless transfer to JSS, and keep an eye on and assess how the transfer is going.
The aim of this endeavor is to ascertain capable and amenable educators who may be temporarily reallocated to JSS until their demands for transfer or swap are fulfilled.
This calculated action will assist address JSS’s severe teacher shortage and guarantee that our kids continue to learn.
The reports of the implementation process are to be submitted by August 8, 2024.
