TSC Disciplinary Removes 33 Teachers Through Notice in the Gazette.
On Friday, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) declared that 33 teachers’ appointments around the nation had been canceled.
The names of the 33 impacted tutors have been made public by the Commission; this list can be accessed through the Gazette Notice number 9587, which was issued on August 2.
The notice’s signatory, TSC Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia, stated that the instructors’ disciplinary proceedings preceded the revocation.
“In exercise of powers conferred by section 30 (2) of the Teachers Service Commission Act, Chapter 212 of the laws of Kenya, the Commission wishes to notify the public that the persons whose names are specified in the Schedule herein below have been removed from the Register of Teachers pursuant to the provision of section 30 (1) (e) of the Teachers Service Commission Act,” the notice begins.
Section 30 of the TSC Act states that disciplinary actions may result in a teacher’s removal from the register.
Additional grounds for removal include the teacher’s false registration, a criminal or sexual offense conviction, or a physical or mental ailment that prevents them from carrying out their obligations.
Macharia stipulated in the Gazette Notice that a teacher’s name can only be reinstalled upon the Commission’s order if it has been deregistered.
In addition, a teacher whose name is struck from the register must instantly resign from their position as a teacher and stop providing instruction.
“Further section 44 (b) of the TSC Act provides that a person who falsely or fraudulently holds himself/herself out to be a registered teacher commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding one hundred thousand shillings or imprisonment for a term not exceeding twelve months, or both,” stated the notice.
The Commission deregistered 65 teachers in April of this year as part of a disciplinary procedure; however, the specific breaches were not disclosed.
Furthermore, the Commission withheld the precise accusations made against the teachers.
Disciplinary concerns led to the removal of 73 teachers in 2023; a Gazette Notice revealed their identities and other facts.
