CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia revealed that the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has opened an appeals procedure for 742 intern teachers who were fired as a result of a recent work boycott.

Comprehensive proposals were presented by Dr. Macharia to guarantee junior secondary school (JSS) intern teachers working in different institutions pensionable contracts and permanent positions. She underlined the significance of this endeavor for these educators’ long-term stability and professional development. Dr. Macharia also disclosed that a large number of instructors would receive promotions in the fiscal year 2024–2025.

“We appreciate the government giving us Ksh1 billion to support more teachers and clear the backlog,” Dr. Macharia said, emphasizing the vital assistance from the government in this area.

She asked principals of schools to take an active part in this process by pushing qualified teachers to apply for openings as soon as they are posted. In order to take advantage of these opportunities, she continued, “as principals, I urge you to encourage eligible teachers in your schools to apply for vacancies once advertised.” She emphasized the significance of timely applications.

The 545 recently promoted principals in attendance at their first formal meeting were cordially welcomed by Dr. Macharia. In an effort to promote a culture of development and advancement within the teaching profession, she promised that fresh promotions will continue throughout the following academic year. She expressed her gratitude to every instructor for their hard work and efficiency, which has made the academic year run smoothly.

During her speech to senior school principals, Dr. Macharia emphasized how crucial it is to get ready for the new class of students who will be finishing their JSS level the following year. But she reminded them, “you Heads of Institutions play a critical role in service delivery, particularly to teachers.” In order to preserve the high standards of education and guarantee a smooth transition for the children, this preparation is essential.

Additionally, Dr. Macharia emphasized how crucial it is to guarantee prompt payroll processing for recently hired instructors. She emphasized the need to prevent problems like overpayments, delays, and salary arrears, which can negatively impact teachers’ morale and financial security.

Through effective payroll management, the TSC hopes to protect teachers’ well-being and keep them focused on providing kids with a high-quality education.
