Primary School Teachers to Earn this for Invigilating KCSE 2025 Exams
Primary school teachers, commonly known as P1 teachers, are set to benefit from new directives by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC). The latest changes affect how the 2025 KCSE exams and national assessments will be conducted.
KNEC Bars Secondary Teachers from Invigilation
According to KNEC, only primary school teachers employed and registered by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will be deployed as KCSE invigilators. Secondary school teachers have been barred from invigilating KCSE exams due to potential conflicts of interest. Instead, they will serve strictly as supervisors during the national examinations scheduled to begin on 21st October 2025.
KCSE Invigilation Payment
KNEC pays invigilators Ksh 550 per day. Since the KCSE exam runs for 16 days, each primary school teacher selected as an invigilator will earn a total of Ksh 8,800.
However, only a limited number of teachers will be involved in KCSE invigilation because others will be deployed to supervise or invigilate KPSEA and KJSEA exams.
Breakdown of KNEC Daily Payments
- KCSE Supervisors: Ksh 680 per day × 16 days = Ksh 10,880
- KCSE Invigilators: Ksh 550 per day × 16 days = Ksh 8,800
- KPSEA Supervisors: Ksh 680 per day × 3 days = Ksh 2,040
- KPSEA Invigilators: Ksh 550 per day × 3 days = Ksh 1,680
- KJSEA Supervisors: Ksh 680 per day × 3 days = Ksh 2,040
- KJSEA Invigilators: Ksh 550 per day × 3 days = Ksh 1,680
- Centre Managers: Ksh 550 per day for both KPSEA and KCSE
KNEC revised these rates after strong protests from teachers, especially those in secondary schools.
Reasons Teachers May Miss KNEC Payments
KNEC has also listed five common reasons why some contracted professionals miss their payments and how to resolve the issues. These professionals include teachers, drivers, and security officers working as invigilators, supervisors, examiners, or centre managers.
- Name mismatch: If the CP2 account name and the M-Pesa account name do not match.
Solution: Create a new CP2 account using a registered Safaricom number that matches your ID. - Missing ID or TSC/PF number: Payments cannot be processed without proper identification.
Solution: Log in to the CP2 portal and update your details correctly. - Incomplete documentation: Attendance registers not submitted, or submitted without official stamps and signatures.
Solution: Centre managers should re-download, sign, stamp, and forward registers through the SCDE. - Undeployed professionals: Some teachers worked but were never deployed in the CP2 system.
Solution: Contact your SCDE with full details (exam centre, year, role, and registered M-Pesa number). - Delayed or inaccurate data submission: Incomplete details slow down KNEC’s processing.
Solution: Clean up your records and resubmit accurate data promptly.
The move to deploy primary school teachers as KCSE invigilators not only addresses exam integrity but also provides financial relief to many educators. With clear payment structures and outlined solutions for common issues, teachers can now look forward to a smoother invigilation exercise during the 2025 KCSE examinations.
