Ministry will announce the new framework for university fees on August 19.

Beginning August 19, 2024, parents and guardians will receive information about the university costs their first-year students will be required to pay.

The Ministry of Education decided on July 19 to cancel fees for the cohort of KCSE 2023 students who were scheduled to enroll in institutions in September. This notification follows their decision.

Research and Higher Education PS Beatrice Inyangala went on to say that the government would only assist students who have submitted funding applications.

She stated this while announcing that the government has extended by ten days, to August 15, 2024, the application deadline for 2023 KCSE students planning to enroll in institutions for the 2024–25 academic year.

On June 18, 2024, the Ministry of Education launched the loan and scholarship application webpage for the KCSE cohort of 2023. The process of applying for loans and scholarships has continued ever since, the speaker stated.

The government had stated last month that the relevant universities would announce the new fee schedule by August 5, 2024.

According to a press statement from the PS, as of August 4, 2024, 79,038 college students had applied for loans and scholarships combined, but 74,237 still needed to apply for money.

She affirmed the government’s commitment to offering university students as well as those enrolled in Technical and Vocational Education and Training Institutions (TVETS) a high-quality, reasonably priced education.

Parents were reassured by Inyangala that their children’s spots in the appropriate academic programs were well-secured.

The PS read, “The fees to be paid by students and their families/guardians as relates to the full cost of each degree program as previously communicated in the admission letters is hereby nullified, and, does not apply anymore. The Ministry of Education wishes to inform the public, particularly parents/guardians of students, and students.”

“Noting that their placement in the individual academic programs remains unchanged is also important for the students and their parents/guardians to know,” she stressed.

President William Ruto ordered that all universities post the price of their degree programs on the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) website starting in May 2023.

The President claimed that doing this will improve accountability and transparency and make it simpler for parents and students to select courses that suit them.

Ministry will announce the new framework for university fees on August 19.
