On Monday night, a number of Kenyan teachers departed their home country to start new careers abroad in the US.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, CS for Diaspora and Foreign Affairs, and PS Roseline Njogu bid farewell to the group.

Out of 150 teachers who expressed interest in working in US schools, about 70 were hired as teachers in the US, according to a recruiting agency official.

According to her, Baltimore City Schools requested the teachers one year prior.

“I wonder if your accent will change in five years,” jokingly remarked Mudavadi as he stepped up to give his speech.

The Prime CS commended Kenyans for their reputation as hardworking people around the world, but he also gave the instructors advice on how to stay focused, maintain discipline, and follow local regulations.

He stated, “You are good workers and you communicate very well, and this is why there is an inclination to have a Kenyan as the favorite in comparison to some of our other colleagues from the continent in the Diaspora.”

“Recognize the laws of that nation and never forget that you are under a different jurisdiction as soon as you step off the plane; as such, you must abide by the rules and laws of that land.”

According to Mudavadi, there have been instances where Kenyans who moved overseas and tried to live in inappropriate ways ended up in difficulties.

“You have to respect the regulations and code of ethics in those countries, so proceed with extreme caution,” he advised.

President William Ruto stated that labor export to other nations was one method his government was generating jobs during a town hall gathering with Mombasa people on Sunday night.

Ruto had declared earlier that day that people who got jobs overseas would have their passports processed in a week and the government would pay for their flights when he spoke to inhabitants of Mwatate in Taita Taveta county.

“I have scheduled the delivery of a passport and other necessary paperwork to anyone wishing to travel overseas for business in less than a week. We will cover the cost of the airline ticket, so they won’t have to,” he declared.

Yet, Mudavadi did not commit to this commitment, even though he acknowledged the teachers’ significant travel expenses.

“I want to reassure you that Kenya’s government would always provide the best help possible. He said, “Let me not rush today and make any promises that I might not be able to fulfill.

“A well-known proverb states that in public spaces, one should promise what one can deliver and deliver it. However, we have heard that assistance is required in several areas,” he continued.

According to Mudavadi, “because putting together this journey can also be expensive,” the government would investigate ways to expedite the process of obtaining a visa and to contribute to the cost of the travel.

“As we move forward, we will carefully consider it,” he stated.

PS Njogu expressed their happiness at seeing more Kenyans take advantage of wonderful possibilities outside from home and their willingness and courage to venture out and explore.

“Kudos to you and we are wishing you all the best,” she said.
