HELB 2025-2026 First Time And Subsequent Applications Now OPEN- How To Apply

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), in collaboration with Universities Fund, invites applications for the 2025–2026 Financial Year Undergraduate Student Scholarship and Loan from Kenyan students placed in public universities through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).

The application also extends to Kenyan students enrolled in self-sponsored programmes in both public and private universities within Kenya, as well as institutions within the East African Community (EAC) recognized by the Commission for University Education (CUE). Such students are eligible to apply for HELB loans only.

Eligibility Criteria

1. Students Eligible for the Old Funding Model:

• Undergraduate students applying for scholarships and loans for the first time, and who sat for their KCSE in or before 2022.

2. Students Eligible for the New Funding Model:

• Newly placed undergraduate students applying for scholarships and loans for the first time, and who sat for their KCSE in 2023 or 2024.

APPLICATION PROCESS – HOW TO APPLY

1. Visitwww.hef.co.ke to access the application portal.
   1. Register, create, and activate your account.
   1. Use your personal mobile number (registered under your name) and National ID Number for registration.
2. Log in to apply for a Loan and/or Scholarship.
   1. Select the 2025–2026 Undergraduate First-Time Scholarship and Loan Application Form.
   1. You may apply for both loan and scholarship if you are eligible (i.e., sat KCSE in 2023 or 2024 and placed by KUCCPS).
3. Carefully read and evaluate your financial status online using the Financial Indicator to better understand the higher education financing process.
4. Access and complete the Scholarship and Loan application form.
5. Once the form is filled and submitted:
   1. You DO NOT need to print or physically submit the application.
   1. The entire process is digital and paperless.
6. You will be able to track the progress of your application through the HEF portal.

IMPORTANT NOTES

• Ensure you carefully read all instructions before submitting your application.
• Only students who understand and complete the Higher Education Financing (HEF) Indicator Assessment will be considered.
• HELB does not charge any fee to access or submit the application.
• Report any solicitation for payment to the authorities.
