Education Sector Receives Ksh 702 Billion in 2025/2026 Budget – Treasury Prioritizes Learning,The Kenyan education sector has emerged as the top beneficiary in the newly unveiled 2025/2026 national budget, receiving a massive allocation of Ksh 702.7 billion from the Ksh 4.239 trillion total budget, as announced by Treasury CS John Mbadi during his first Budget Day address to Parliament.

 Budget Day Highlights – June 12, 2025, Nairobi

Speaking at the National Assembly Chambers, CS Mbadi outlined the government’s financial roadmap for the next fnancial year, anchored on President William Ruto’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and Vision 2030 development goals.

The Ksh 4.239 trillion budget is divided into:

  • Ksh 1.79 trillion for recurrent spending
  • Ksh 1.337 trillion for Consolidated Fund Services (CFS)
  • Ksh 707.8 billion for development expenditure

 Breakdown of the Ksh 702.7 Billion Education Budget

The education sector will receive 16.6% of the total budget, with key allocations as follows:

 Teachers Service Commission (TSC) – Ksh 387.2 Billion

  • Ksh 7.2 billion reserved for recruiting intern teachers

 Free Day Secondary Education – Ksh 51.9 Billion

 Junior Secondary School (JSS) Capitation – Ksh 28.9 Billion

 Free Primary Education – Ksh 7.0 Billion

 National Examinations – Ksh 5.9 Billion

 School Feeding Programme – Ksh 3.0 Billion

 Infrastructure Development & TVET Support

  • Primary and Secondary School InfrastructureKsh 1.7 Billion
  • TVET Infrastructure DevelopmentKsh 1.4 Billion

 Higher Education Support

  • Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)Ksh 41.5 Billion
  • University ScholarshipsKsh 16.9 Billion
  • TVET Capitation and ScholarshipsKsh 7.7 Billion
