Climate WorX 2025 Online Application Guidelines for Eligible Kenyan Youth

In a bold move to tackle youth unemployment while advancing its climate resilience agenda, the Government of Kenya has officially launched the Climate WorX Program 2025, targeting the recruitment of 110,000 youth for green jobs across the country. The announcement comes just days after President William Ruto’s Madaraka Day speech on June 1, 2025, where he emphasized the urgent need for sustainable employment and environmental protection.
The Climate WorX initiative is being implemented under the Climate Resilience Service Program (CRSP), a government framework that combines job creation with climate-smart public works, especially in urban and rural infrastructure development.
Nationwide Rollout and Leadership Oversight
The recruitment process will be carried out in all 47 counties, with the exercise led jointly by Dr. Raymond Omollo, Principal Secretary for the State Department for Interior and National Administration, and Mr. Charles Hinga, Principal Secretary for the State Department for Housing and Urban Development.
According to the National Steering Committee, which is overseeing the program’s rollout, the initiative is designed to empower youth aged 18 to 35 years, while contributing to environmental sustainability and community development.
Who Can Apply: Eligibility and Online Application Process
The application process for Climate WorX is fully digital and transparent, with eligible youth required to apply via the official CRSP portal: https://crsp.go.ke.
Key Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be a Kenyan citizen aged between 18–35 years
- Must provide a valid National ID or Maisha Card
- Must indicate current residence details (county, ward, village, and sub-location)
- Former NYS members must disclose prior involvement
- Applicants with prior disciplinary issues or criminal records are disqualified
Verification will be conducted by National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs), local chiefs, and village elders to ensure community-based vetting and accountability. Recruited youth will be deployed within their home villages to enhance local engagement and ensure transparency.
“The deployment process is designed to reflect fairness and integrity while contributing to real community transformation,” read a statement from the National Steering Committee on June 5, 2025.
Scope of Work: Climate and Community Projects
The program will engage youth in a wide array of public works aimed at climate adaptation and infrastructure development. Some of the tasks include:
- Rehabilitation of feeder roads
- Construction and upgrade of pedestrian pathways
- Drainage improvement in informal urban settlements
- Cleaning public spaces and markets
- Restoration of riparian and wetland zones
- Clearing blocked waterways and urban drainage systems
Early success of the pilot phase in Nairobi County has already been recorded. As of June 2025, the pilot has:
- Restored 47km of riparian zones
- Cleared 84km of clogged drainage systems
- Rehabilitated 45km of pedestrian walkways
The impact has been verified by the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development, in collaboration with NEMA (National Environment Management Authority).
Remuneration and Work Conditions
Participants in the Climate WorX program will work in 10-day shifts, with payments processed via M-Pesa mobile money transfers. The compensation structure is as follows:
- Ksh 500 per day for general workers
- Ksh 580 per day for supervisors
Payments will be made only after task verification by project supervisors and local NGAOs. The government has emphasized performance tracking, incident reporting, and daily attendance verification as key accountability tools.

Future Expansion Plans: Phase II Coming in Early 2026
The government has already announced plans for Phase II of the Climate WorX program, scheduled to begin in Q1 2026 (January to March). The second phase will increase the total number of beneficiaries to 200,000 youth across all counties.
To ensure fairness, the recruitment will maintain:
- Equal county quotas
- 50:50 gender parity
- 30% reservation for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs)
“At the core of this initiative is our commitment to equitable youth empowerment and sustainable development. Climate WorX is not just about jobs—it’s about building resilient communities,” said the National Steering Committee.
Oversight and Monitoring Structures
The Climate WorX program is a multi-agency initiative coordinated at national and county levels. Oversight and implementation involve:
- Ministry of Interior and National Administration
- Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development
- County Governments and NGAOs
- Council of Governors
- Public Service Commission
- Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry
- Ministry of Labour and Social Protection
- National Treasury and Economic Planning
- Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for compliance and vetting
Monitoring and evaluation are managed by the National Project Coordination Unit (NPCU) with data uploaded to the e-CRSP platform, and verified through field inspections.
Final Remarks and Next Steps
With the launch of Climate WorX, the government is taking a bold step toward addressing climate change, urban degradation, and youth unemployment. This large-scale public employment initiative is expected to be a game-changer in creating livelihood opportunities and boosting resilience in Kenya’s urban and rural communities.
All official updates, deployment schedules, and application results will be published on the CRSP website and announced through quarterly press briefings by the respective Principal Secretaries.
