Analysis Of 2025 KUCCPS Placement Results – Top Choices

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has officially announced the release of the 2025 Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) results, marking a major milestone for thousands of 2024 KCSE candidates.

Speaking in Nairobi on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, CS Ogamba revealed that 310,502 students had successfully been placed in various institutions — including universities, colleges, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centers — under the current placement cycle.

Of the 244,563 candidates who qualified for degree programs this year, 201,695 applied for placement, reflecting a high uptake rate and growing demand for higher education opportunities across Kenya.

Nursing Leads as Most Preferred Course at KMTC

Among the top choices, nursing emerged as the most sought-after course, particularly among applicants to the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC). According to the CS, KMTC received 52,725 applications against a capacity of 34,048 slots, with over 27,000 applicants selecting nursing diplomas and certificates as their first choice.

Other popular KMTC courses included:

  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery
  • Medical Emergency Technician
  • Community Health

CS Ogamba noted that the overwhelming interest in medical-related courses reflects the country’s strong demand for healthcare professionals and continued efforts to improve medical training capacity.

Over 20,000 Seek Teaching Courses — Primary Education Leads

The Education CS also announced that 20,786 candidates applied for teaching-related diploma programs, showing strong interest in education as a career path. Of these:

  • 10,800 students secured placement in Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE)
  • 836 students were placed in Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education (DSTE), out of a 2,735-slot capacity

The figures indicate that while demand for teaching courses remains high, secondary teacher training programs still have space available, especially for qualified candidates willing to specialize in subject areas with high shortages.

New Diploma in Law Program Fully Booked

One of the highlights of the 2025 KUCCPS cycle is the introduction of a new Diploma in Law programme. The Education CS confirmed that all 500 available slots for the Kenya School of Law’s diploma course were filled, demonstrating keen interest in legal studies among young Kenyans.

“A positive development was the introduction of the Kenya School of Law diploma. It received overwhelming interest, and all slots were filled,” said CS Ogamba.

93,000+ Students Apply for TVET Courses

The Education Ministry also recorded significant interest in TVET programmes, with 93,207 applicants applying for placement in technical and vocational institutions. Most of these applicants have already been successfully placed.

This surge underscores the growing recognition of technical and hands-on skills training as a viable and valuable pathway to employment, entrepreneurship, and national development.

Conclusion: What This Means for Kenya’s Higher Education Sector

The release of the 2025 KUCCPS placement results reflects a dynamic shift in Kenya’s education trends:

  • Strong preference for medical and healthcare-related courses like nursing and clinical medicine
  • Sustained interest in teacher training despite ongoing reforms in the sector
  • Rising demand for legal and technical qualifications
  • Increased confidence in TVET education as a pathway to employment

CS Ogamba lauded KUCCPS for a successful placement cycle and encouraged all placed students to take up their admissions without delay.

Stakeholders have welcomed the placements as a reflection of better alignment between national priorities, labor market needs, and student aspirations.
